Philosophy
Any student of music has the ability to succeed on a personal level, a professional level or both.

It is my role as a music teacher to guide them toward that success. For over 30 years, I have found this to be an exciting and fulfilling process. I’m able to use all my experience as a lifelong musician to assist my students in reaching their goals.

The first step is to build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music performance. This includes proper technique, the ability to read both standard musical notation and tablature and an understanding of basic music theory. I make it a point to ask each new student, “What kind of music do you like?” The learning process becomes more enjoyable if the repertoire includes their favorite songs.
Once the basics have been covered, the lesson material expands to include skills tailored to individual interests such as improvisation, songwriting and technique for vocal accompaniment.

Each student plays a major part in shaping his or her musical identity. I consider myself fortunate to guide them in the process of discovery and to be a part of their musical journey.
